Tobias is no stranger to creating cute stop motion dogs, working on Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs and once again he’s working his magic for ilume, a tech pet food brand that allows dog owners to track their dog’s activity data and feed them the right amount of healthy food made by hand in their kitchens in Melbourne. The Rowdy director teamed up with Otis studios and 72andSunny Sydney to craft a delightful animation brimming with personality and character.
The heartwarming story dips into the relationship between children and dogs. In this case we see a young girl and her dog, Charlie as they explore and have fun together, from games of fetch to going to the beach. A dog can bring a lot of happiness to a child and the commercial really captures that unconditional love that only a dog can provide.
Tobias had this to say when asked about what attracted him to the project: “I loved that the idea was strong and clear but the detail was vague. Being given such creative freedom was an amazing and rare thing. It meant I could concentrate on the visual language, the story and emotional tone safe in the knowledge that the core idea worked.”.
